Blue in the face!

There are hundreds of familiar sights at Glastonbury festival most of them appear year after year. Some sections like the Pyramid Stage come and go, where as more established and historic zones like the Stone Circle and the Green Fields remain the spiritual heartland of the event. Another common feature of the festival is Oxfam’s stewardship. For over seventeen years, Oxfam has provided hundreds of volunteers to help staff the UK’s biggest music festival. Every year Glastonbury and Michael Eavis make thousands of donations to various charities such as Oxfam, Water Aid and Greenpeace. Glastonbury continues to help promote and publicise charity causes and campaigns, and this year is no exception. This year Oxfam have launched their ‘Blue in the Face’ campaign as part of their continuing mission to raise awareness of climate change issues ahead of the run up to Decembers UN climate change conference in Copenhagen. In coordination with this campaign, Oxfam has created a video which is due to be premiered on the big screens around the Pyramid Stage. Various artists such as Jarvis Cocker, Little Boots and Fatboy Slim have participated in the video. The whole notion of the video revolves around speaking out and demanding action until you are literally ‘blue in the face’. Oxfam hopes that this kind of stubborn persistence and display of public opinion will finally help organise the fight against global warming.
