Alas, poor Michael…

Last night the undisputed king of pop was rushed from his home in Beverly Hills to UCLA medical centre. Paramedics were called to the house at 1921GMT after an emergency phone call alerted medical staff that Michael had stopped breathing. The singer’s personal physician attempted to revive him for over an hour, but was unsuccessful. Reports suggest that Jackson suffered a fatal heart attack after a prolonged period of sleeplessness. So far police and medical staff are reluctant to comment on MJ’s death, and are at present awaiting autopsy results before confirming the cause of the singer’s death.

The singer was due to embark on a 50 date comeback tour starting in London in a few weeks time. Throughout the night and this morning fans have been congregating across the globe and paying tribute to one of the most iconic entertainers of our generation. Jackson’s lifestyle has often been criticised and his actions have frequently caused controversy, yet he still remains one of the most popular musicians of our times despite claims of child molestation and child neglect. He was also notoriously mocked by Jarvis Cocker during his Jesus-esque Earth Song performance at the Brit awards in 1996.

Perhaps one of the great difficulties for MJ was the constant media coverage and hype surrounding him. Even during his early childhood Jackson was constantly surrounded by reporters and cameras. He was in a sense the first real 24hr media star and his life and privacy was often indecently displayed to masses.

Despite the controversy, Michael still remains one of the greatest songwriters and performers of our generation. R.I.P MJ x
